A double-edged  sword: how to support Ukraine without getting scammed

Humanitarian aid for Ukraine

Many of our clients reached out to us, seeking ways to support Ukraine and our local team members amidst the war. Unfortunately, as scammers have flooded the internet, it has become increasingly harder to ensure that your money will actually go to credible organizations.

Please be wary of fraudulent charities attempting to take advantage of this humanitarian crisis. Over the past few months, there has been a sharp rise in phone calls, emails, text messages, and even paid ads soliciting donations in regards to Ukraine.

Even though we encourage you to donate, please do so with caution.

Before giving away your money, please research the organizations to whom you want to donate to. Be certain that said charity is real. Double-check where exactly your money will be going to: will it be used to purchase food, medical supplies, or provide shelter?

If you decide to use payment systems such as PayPal or Venmo to donate to someone personally, make sure that you or your colleagues know this recipient. Also, double-check if this person or organization provides details on the distribution of the charitable donation.

Like any scam, watch out for phishing emails – review the email address and confirm that it’s not a fake domain. Additionally, be careful of downloading attachments from unknown senders.
